During current events, small business owners are having it tough during the pandemic. Many have been required to close their doors, resulting in a lack of money made. However, small businesses are essential. They bring growth and innovation to our communities, provide employment, create entrepreneurship, and support the local economies and neighborhoods. Ultimately, it’s up to the community members, it’s up to you to support your local small businesses. Here are some ways you can help, especially during the current holiday season:
1. Discover these small new brands
Look around your neighborhood. Is there a new restaurant you haven’t heard of? Or a small boutique? Look into these. Most of these businesses are fairly affordable. So, purchase something you’re interested in.
2. Buy a gift card
These businesses need cash flow, and the easiest way to help them with this is to purchase gift cards to use along the road. Keep them for yourself, or treat others. A gift card to anyone as a holiday present or even just a random act of kindness.
3. Get takeout
Since dining in at your favorite restaurant isn’t likely an option right now, order takeout! Most restaurants are now providing delivery services as well as curbside pickup. So order and enjoy delicious food in the comfort of your own home. Try new foods you haven’t tried before. And if you do enjoy your food, feel free to recommend others.
4. Share on social media
If you’re fond of a particular business, why not let people know of it? Social media can reach great amounts of people and would be great advertising for the business. Post reviews on something you purchased and enjoyed. Post recommendations. Your words can go a long way for the business.
It’s a hard time for owners of these businesses due to the fact that not only are they most likely not making enough money, but they have to work longer hours to make up for this. So if you can afford to, make these business days with tips. You never know how far this can go and how happy it can make someone.
6. Say thanks
It’s a hard time for all of us, we are stressed and worried about what’s to come. Let these businesses know you care and appreciate them. Send a thank-you note or email, or even visit in person. A little kindness definitely goes a long way!
